Safety systems do not need to be complex to be effective. Shanthi Pal explains the thinking behind the Global Smart Pharmacovigilance Strategy, and how it can be implemented.

The Global Smart Pharmacovigilance Strategy was developed by WHO to foster strong, adaptive and trusted regulatory systems. Building on the idea that safety systems can be effective without being overly complex, it offers a practical framework to help countries strengthen medicine and vaccine safety systems.

In this special episode, Shanthi Pal, WHO Pharmacovigilance Team Lead, talks about the strategy and what it means for countries. The interview was recorded during the 43rd Annual Meeting of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring in Cairo, Egypt.
